Robust Disaster Recovery Solutions: A Case Study from Delhi’s Premier Hospital

Customer Challenge:

They needed a DR solution that could guarantee a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of less than 5 minutes. Additionally, they wanted geographical isolation from their primary site to ensure continuity in case of local disruptions. The solution also needed to be scalable on short notice, in line with the hospital’s growth and expansion plans.
Our Winning Solution:
After careful analysis and evaluation of various options, including on-premises and cloud-based solutions, we decided to implement the DR on a public cloud platform. Azure was chosen for its cost-effectiveness, consumption-based billing, and its capability to handle mission-critical workloads efficiently. The implemented solution featured automatic failover for the hospital’s core HRMS application and SQL database, achieving an RTO and RPO of less than a minute with minimal transaction loss. This setup ensured uninterrupted 24/7 customer billing operations, a critical function for the hospital.
Our Approach:
What made our solution stand out was its ability to seamlessly integrate DR for multiple components: the HRMS system, on-premises hardware, SQL database, and the hospital’s continuous operational needs. The deployment of the DR solution required minimal downtime, ensuring that the hospital’s services remained uninterrupted.

The real test of our solution came with the first major hardware outage at the hospital’s primary site, lasting over 12 hours. The near-instant application failover to the cloud-based DR ensured uninterrupted services, significantly aiding in customer retention during this critical period.
